Tokyo Police Club burst onto the scene in 2006 with 16 minutes of music – A Lesson In Crime EP – that garnered an ecstatic response, relentless touring and a performance on the Late Show with David Letterman. The Newmarket, Ontario quartet have never looked back. 2008 saw the release of their debut full-length, Elephant Shell, which led to a tour supporting Weezer and an appearance on “Desperate Housewives.”
In June 2010, Tokyo Police Club released Champ on Mom+Pop Music, showing deft skill and craft in creating their most diverse and infectious collection of songs to date. The band recorded the album in Los Angeles with producer Rob Schnapf (Beck/Elliott Smith), and once again received high-praise from publications such as The New York Times, NPR’s “All Things Considered”, Pitchfork and Alternative Press, amongst countless others; while first single ”Wait Up (Boots of Danger)” has left its mark between many a set of ears.
The band have kept to the road relentlessly since, with a slew of headlining shows both in North America and internationally, along with supporting Passion Pit and Phoenix. In January 2011, Tokyo Police Club returned to the road for their biggest North American tour to date.
The band is equally at home in the studio, having recently finished a marathon ten-day recording session during which they covered ten songs from ten different years. The resulting album, 10x10x10, is currently available on iTunes and highlights the versatility and drive of a band for whom there is no end in sight.
