After years of declining participation at the polls, a new generation of young voters has arrived. Millions of new voters between the ages of 18 – 29 cast ballots in May 2011. Rock the Vote Canada is dedicated to building the political power and clout of the Generation Y, the Millennial Generation, by turning out young people to vote, causing the candidates to campaign to them, and by making politicians pay attention to youth and the issues they care about once in office.
Our organization is non partisan in nature which means we are here to inform, educate and start the discussion, not influence or sway to a particular political belief or brand. It is up to each new voter to determine which political party or individual they believe best represents their interests. We intend to be the best-informed place online where young people can find out what they need to know before casting a ballot.
We will use music, popular culture, new technologies such as facebook, twitter, YouTube as well as grassroots organization to engage and mobilize young Canadian’s to participate in every election, at every level.
Rock the Vote Canada stems from the Rock the Vote movement founded in the United States more than twenty years ago. It has registered more young people to vote than any other similar organization or campaign. Our hope is that we can duplicate the successes they have had in the United States, here in Canada.
